Columbia MD Auto Shop Goes Solar Again

by | Jul 29, 2015 | BA Auto Care News

When it comes to conserving the environment, we not only talk the talk, we walk the walk.

Back in 2010 we implemented a solar light tube and automated lighting controls project which has already paid for itself.  A brief description of this prior project, is noted in the video below.

We are now embarking on the next step, a solar panel project.  This project is projected to take care of 95% of our electricity needs. 185 solar panels will be installed in late August by Solar Solution LLC of Washington DC.

Similar to the light tube project, this project makes good business sense and will also pay for itself in less than ten years based on current electricity costs.  The public will be able to view the two systems on October 3, 2015 when we participate in the Maryland Tour of Solar and Green Homes.

The diagram above shows the location of the 185 solar panels. Each panel operates independently and will provide us with a reliable system. The amount of power being generated will be monitored constantly and the system will give us updates when we are using power from the grid or supplying power to the grid.

With further energy savings like changing over to LED lamps we hope to become 100% energy neutral.
